Giorgio Armani started his career in fashion as a window dresser and salesman for la Rinascente where he gained an in-depth knowledge of fabric and design, before being hired in 1964 by Nino Cerruti as a designer at the men’s clothing company, Hitman. By 1975 he’d created his own menswear label and by the next year, he’d created his first collection for women. During the 1980s he transformed women’s professional clothing by replacing their floral skirts with elegant, colorful pantsuits. By 2001, he had gained the title of the most successful Italian designer of all time, with his eponymous label gaining a level of notoriety that attracted huge stars like David and Victoria Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Nadal, Megan Fox, and Rihanna to become faces for the brand.
