Burberry for woman

Thomas Burberry opened his first store in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England in 1856 at the age of 21. The brand was founded on its creator’s love of the great outdoors. In 1879 he invented gaberdine, an innovative lightweight waterproof fabric that would protect its wearer from the elements. This revolutionary material would eventually be used to make the Burberry trench coat. During the First and Second World Wars, Burberry made clothing and equipment for the British Armed Forces, prompting a rise in the brand’s popularity. Another Burberry trademark is their iconic plaid, which has been used by the brand since the 1920s. First used to line their trench coats, the material went on to be used for Check accessories after customer Jacquline Dillemman used it to wrap luggage and create an umbrella cover.
