Passionate from a young age about fashion, Gianni Versace founded his namesake brand in Milan in 1978. Although he had no formal training per se, he spent time in his youth working at his mother’s sewing business, creating his first dress at the age of nine—a one-shoulder evening gown that he would go on to recreate 40 years later for Princess Diana. In 1989, he created the Versus diffusion line as a gift to his sister Donatella, so that she might follow in his footsteps. Then in 2018, the Versus and Versace Jeans lines were merged, becoming Versace Jeans Couture. The Versace Jeans Couture style is instantly recognizable acting like a slightly rebellious younger sibling to the main brand. It’s bold and bright, youthful and full of attitude, featuring punchy prints and patterns and the label’s signature gold chains.
